Indicator Summary
- Asian/Pacific Islander adults aged 25-44 have lower rates of premature death compared with other racial/ethnic groups with 66 annual deaths per 100,000, and the lowest rate among the 45-64 age group with 302 annual deaths per 100,000.
- American Indian/Alaska Native adults have higher rates of premature death compared to other racial/ethnic groups with 481 annual deaths per 100,000 among adults aged 25-44 and 1,153 annual deaths per 100,000 among adults aged 45-64.
- Six Western states (Utah, California, Washington, Hawaii, Colorado and Idaho) and three Northeastern states (Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut) are among the top ten states with the lowest rates of premature mortality.
- Nine Southern states (West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and South Carolina) are among the bottom ten states with the highest rates of premature mortality.
