Key State Highlights.
Idaho ranks among the top 10 states on health outcomes, physical environment, and community and safety factors, and among the top 20 states on social and economic factors but ranks in the bottom 10 states for health care access measures.
  • The American Indian/Alaska Native population in Idaho face some of the greatest inequities in opportunity and health outcomes. The percent of the population living in areas with high food security and having health insurance is lower than the state rate for all groups. They also have the lowest rate of youth aged 16-24 in school or working, and the highest rates of premature mortality and an infant mortality rate that is more than double the state rate for all groups.
  • The Hispanic population also face considerable socioeconomic and health care inequities. They have lower rates than the state rate of post-secondary education, livable income, and health insurance coverage. They are also least likely to live in areas with adequate access to primary and psychiatric care.
  • Black households face some of the greatest challenges with housing, including affordable housing and home ownership. Also, the portion of Black infants in Idaho that are low birthweight is higher than the state rate.
  • While performing generally well on most indicators, Asian/Pacific Islander populations in Idaho are among the least likely to live in areas with low sexual assault rates.
