Key State Highlights.
Oklahoma has poorer health outcomes and health care access than most states across the nation, despite ranking among the top states for physical environment factors.
  • Black individuals in Oklahoma are furthest from HOPE Goals in health outcomes. Black adults experience higher rates of premature mortality than the state rate. Black infants are most likely to be born at a low birth weight and least likely to live to their first birthday.
  • Black communities also face some of the greatest challenges in the state, being the least likely to live in opportunity-rich areas with low rates of homicide and physical and sexual assault.
  • Hispanic individuals in Oklahoma also face considerable socioeconomic and health care challenges, having the lowest rates of post-secondary education, livable income, access to affordable care, and access to a dedicated health care provider.
  • American Indian/Alaska Native populations in the state are least likely to have health insurance coverage or access to primary and psychiatric care, and experience higher rates of premature mortality for adults than the state rate for all groups.
