Key State Highlights.
Overall, Nevada faces environmental and socioeconomic challenges, ranking in the bottom states nationally in several areas. The state suffers from deep racial/ethnic inequities across all measures of opportunity and health outcomes.
  • Black residents are less likely than the state rate for all groups to own homes, afford housing, live in quality housing, or earn a livable income. They also are least likely to live in areas with low rates of homicide, physical assault, sexual assault, or robbery. Black adults face higher rates of premature mortality than the state rate while Black babies are more likely to be born with low birth weights and die before their first birthdays.
  • American Indian/Alaska Native individuals living in Nevada face higher rates of premature mortality and are less likely than other groups to have access to primary or psychiatric care.
  • Hispanic communities in Nevada face substantial inequities in attaining a livable income and post-secondary education. They are the least likely to be able to afford healthcare, to have insurance coverage, or have dedicated health care providers. Only 37% of Hispanic adults living in Nevada report excellent or very good health as compared with a state rate of 47% for all groups.
  • Although Asian/Pacific Islander adults generally fare well nationally and in Nevada, they are less likely than the state rate for all populations to live in neighborhoods with low rates of physical assault and robbery than the state rate for all groups.
